Deciduous Dipterocarp Forestป่าแพะ ป่าแดง ป่าโคก หรือป่าเต็งรัง, Example: ป่าผลัดใบประเภทหนึ่ง พบมากทางภาคเหนือ ภาคกลาง และภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ ป่าชนิดนี้มีอยู่ทั่วไปทั้งที่ราบและที่เขาสูง ดินมักเป็นทราย และลูกรังซึ่งมีสีค่อนข้างแดง บางแห่งจึงเรียกว่าป่าแดง ส่วนในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ ป่าชนิดนี้มักขึ้นอยู่ในที่ เป็นลูกเนินที่เรียกกันว่าโคก มีลักษณะเป็นป่าโปร่ง มีต้นไม้ขนาดใหญ่ ขนาดกลางและขนาดเล็กขึ้นปะปนกัน แต่ไม่แน่นทึบ เพราะดินในป่าชนิดนี้มีความอุดมสมบูรณ์น้อยมาก พันธุ์ไม้ในป่าจึงเป็นพวกที่ทนทานความแห้งแล้งได้ดี โดยมีลักษณะพิเศษ คือ เนื้อไม้จะแข็งและเปลือกจะหนามาก พันธุ์ไม้ในป่าจึงเป็นพวกที่ทนทานต่อไฟป่าซึ่งเกิดขึ้นทุกปี ธรรมชาติจึงออกแบบให้พันธุไม้ในป่าชนิดนี้มีกำลังแตกหน่อสูง โดยการให้ถูกไฟไหม้เสียก่อน เพราะเมล็ดพันธุ์ไม้จำพวก Dipterocarp จะมีน้ำมันปนอยู่ เมื่อทิ้งไว้นาน น้ำมันในเมล็ดจะทำให้อัตราการงอกต่ำ พันธุ์ไม้ที่พบ ได้แก่ ไม้เต็ง รัง เหียง พลวง กราด เป็นต้น ส่วนพื้นล่างของป่าจะไม่รกทึบมีหญ้าชนิดต่างๆ ขึ้นอยู่ทั่วไป ดดยเฉพาะหย้าเพ็ด และไผ่ชนิดต่างๆ [สิ่งแวดล้อม]
